Overview

The Manhattan covers eight sizes in two shapes: five rectangles from 55 to 96 inches long and three round cylinders at 42, 56 and 66 inches across. Heights run from 15 to 20 inches, and weights from about 250 pounds on the smallest cylinder to about 600 pounds on the longest rectangle.

Each kit pairs the cast GFRC enclosure with a stainless steel or Pro Series brass burner, natural gas or propane and a lighting system: AWEIS electronic in 24VAC, 30VDC or 120V, a battery kit or a match lit key valve. The finish is chosen from the color chart once you order, and we confirm it with you before anything goes to Fire by Design.

What's Included

  • Manhattan GFRC table in your chosen shape, size and finish color
  • Burner for your shape: a 304 stainless steel ring on the cylinders or a 316 stainless steel linear burner on the rectangles, with Pro Series brass as the alternative
  • Flat burner pan matched to the opening
  • Ignition parts for your option, from the AWEIS control to the battery kit with its face plate fitted to the table or a key valve on a bracket
  • 18 inch flexible gas line in 1/2 inch size, or two 24 inch lines with the key valve
  • Glass wind screen with brackets, sized to each rectangle
  • Crating for freight shipment

Features

Eight sizes in two shapes

The rectangles measure 55 by 30, 56 by 36, 68 by 36, 78 by 32 and 96 by 36 inches. The cylinders are 42, 56 and 66 inches across. Tabletop surfaces range from 8 inches on the 55 inch rectangle to 14.5 inches on the 66 inch cylinder.

Cylinders with a ring burner

The 42 inch cylinder is 18 inches high and weighs about 250 pounds. The 56 inch is 16 inches and 350 pounds, and the 66 inch is 18 inches and 450 pounds. Each is fired by a 304 stainless steel ring: 6 inches at 43K BTU on the 42 inch, 18 inches at 162K BTU on the 56 inch and 24 inches at 170K BTU on the 66 inch. The ring's raised hub keeps water from running down into the ignition.

Rectangles with linear burners

Each rectangle is fired by a single 316 stainless steel linear burner: 26 inches at 37K BTU on the 55 inch size, 18 inches at 26K BTU on the 56 inch, 30 inches at 43K BTU on the 68 inch, 44 inches at 62K BTU on the 78 inch and 60 inches at 85K BTU on the 96 inch. The 56 inch rectangle is offered with stainless steel only.

A glass screen on every rectangle

The rectangles come with a glass wind screen and brackets: 39.5 by 15 inches on the 55 inch size, 33 by 15 on the 56 inch, 45 by 13 on the 68 inch, 59 by 13 on the 78 inch and 74 by 14 on the 96 inch. The cylinders are listed without one.

Pro Series brass on all but one size

Brass is offered on every Manhattan size except the 56 inch rectangle. The cylinders take a snowflake burner: 11 inches at 42K BTU, 18 inches at 124K BTU and 25 inches at 285K BTU. The 78 and 96 inch rectangles take a TX burner: 24 inches at 50K BTU and 36 inches at 87K BTU.

Choose how it lights

The 24VAC AWEIS is the standard system and includes a 24 volt transformer. The 30VDC AWEIS is pool-certified and includes its power supply, while the 120V version needs an adapter. Where wiring is awkward, the battery system runs on three AA batteries. Match lit uses a key valve with two 24 inch gas lines.

FAQ

Which sizes can I order with a brass burner?

Every size except the 56 inch rectangle, which is offered with stainless steel only.

Do the cylinders come with a wind screen?

No. The glass screens belong to the five rectangles, and each is sized to its table.

How much fire glass does each size take?

On the rectangles, about 45 pounds for the 55 inch, 25 for the 56 inch, 36 for the 68 inch, 60 for the 78 inch and 72 for the 96 inch. On the cylinders, about 48 pounds for the 42 inch, 81 for the 56 inch and 124 for the 66 inch.

Will wind put the flame out?

A strong gust can. The AWEIS senses the loss of heat, shuts down briefly and relights, usually within about 15 seconds. Fire by Design says it withstands winds above 55 mph.

What does installation involve?

Plan for a licensed professional to run the gas line and any wiring. Plumbing codes call for a manual gas shutoff within 6 feet of the table. Fire by Design also recommends drainage for every fire feature.

Can one AWEIS light two tables?

No. Each AWEIS has a single sensor that watches one flame, so every table needs its own unit. The 24VAC and 30VDC units can share a power source, up to three in a chain at 50VA each.
